Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Head of Conveyancing to lead and manage our conveyancing department within a forward-thinking, technology-driven legal firm based in Romford, London. In this strategic role, you will oversee all aspects of the conveyancing function, from day-to-day operations to long-term departmental development. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of service delivery, managing a team of conveyancing professionals, and driving the adoption of innovative technology solutions to enhance efficiency and client satisfaction. Your leadership will be instrumental in positioning the department as a centre of excellence within the firm, whilst maintaining strict compliance with regulatory requirements and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and develop the conveyancing team, including recruitment, training, performance management, and career progression planning
  • Oversee all conveyancing transactions from instruction through completion, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Implement and optimise technology solutions to streamline conveyancing processes, reduce manual work, and improve turnaround times
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance procedures, conduct regular file reviews, and implement corrective actions where necessary
  • Manage departmental budgets, monitor costs, and identify opportunities for operational efficiency and profitability
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, manage expectations, and ensure consistent delivery of exceptional service
  • Stay abreast of changes in conveyancing law, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, and communicate these to the team
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of conveyancing services with wider firm operations
  • Report to senior management on departmental performance, key metrics, and strategic initiatives
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and professional excellence within the department

Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates who bring substantial experience in conveyancing law, combined with proven leadership capability and a genuine enthusiasm for technology-driven transformation. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen, capable of managing both people and processes effectively. You should demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence, regulatory compliance, and client service, whilst possessing the vision and drive to evolve the department in line with modern legal practice. Above all, we seek someone who is collaborative, resilient, and capable of inspiring a team to achieve ambitious goals in a dynamic, tech-forward environment.

Experience & Expertise Required:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in conveyancing law, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and developing conveyancing teams
  • Deep knowledge of residential and/or commercial conveyancing processes, documentation, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated experience implementing legal technology solutions and process automation
  • Strong understanding of financial management, budgeting, and departmental P&L responsibility
  • Knowledge of current conveyancing law, including recent legislative changes and best practice standards
  • Experience in a technology-led or digitally progressive legal environment
